What is Foster Care?
Becoming a foster parent for FOHCAS is very similar to
becoming a foster parent for orphaned children. You take
homeless animals into your home temporarily while looking
for potential adoptive parents. You may attend off-site
adoptions with your foster pets, and the pets will also be
advertised on Petfinder.com. If you are interested in
becoming a foster parent for FOHCAS, please call the Shelter
Director for an application or
print the online form.
Why Foster?
Fostered pets are given a chance to live! If a dog or cat
remains at the animal shelter, the chances that it will be
euthanized are quite high. Fostered pets are taken into
loving homes where there is no time limit on their lives.
They are socialized, house-trained, and given proper vet
care prior to adoption. Foster parents also have the
opportunity to interview potential adopters and perform home
visits to make sure the pets are going to appropriate homes.
Fostered pets are wonderful options for people looking to
adopt a well-adjusted dog or cat.
Here are some of our foster pets...
DeFoor-Harkins

These kittens were fostered for several months in the Spring
and Summer of 2007 by volunteers Chanda and Mick. There were
five of them, and we're proud to say each and every one got
an amazing "forever home" thanks to the patience and
persistence of their foster parents. One benefit of being a
foster parent is that you can review all potential adopters.
Agentis

This group of six puppies was fostered by
Deanne, our shelter director. They needed lots of TLC, which
she gently gave them. Deanne had to bottle feed them because
they were too young to eat solids. We appreciate Deanne's
hard work because these snuggly fur kids wouldn't have lived
without her help! Deanne is always taking in shelter pets
that need special attention.
