Northeast Veterinary Hospital
NEVH held a Rabies Clinic on May 24. The
doctors and staff all graciously volunteered
their time to provide discounted
vaccinations to the pets of Habersham County
as well as raise money for FOHCAS. Dr.
Cummings is a regular volunteer with FOHCAS.
She presented a check to John, our manager,
for $750!! Thank you so much!

Kissing Booth
FOHCAS hosted a "kissing booth" at the
Mountain Laurel Festival this year. We
raised over $200!

Some very generous local vets have
donated free spaying or neutering to FOHCAS.
We are giving these away to folks who really
need it. If you would like to apply, please
send a detailed explanation as to why you
need or deserve this along with proof of
your income. You can mail it to FOHCAS c/o
Spay/Neuter or email it to:

not call the animal shelter--this is being
handled through a committee of Board
members. Thanks!

Shelter Shower at Clarkesville Elementary
The entire Second Grade at Clarkesville
Elementary School gave FOHCAS a "Shelter
Shower" on March 6. These children want to
make a difference in the world, and they
chose needy animals as their project.
Representatives for FOHCAS came from
Clarkesville Vet Clinic to give these great
kids a little education about how to end the
cycle of homeless pets. FOHCAS was
"showered" with boxes and boxes of wonderful
donations! Also, the children raised enough
money to become official members of FOHCAS!
Thank you so much, Second Grade!
Pictures to come...
Harold's Story
A speckled dog named Harold didn't have much
of a chance at the animal shelter. Our good
friend, Glad Simmons decided to give him a
second opportunity to live the good life by
fostering him. Foster families for pets are
similar to those for children. Glad will
care for Harold temporarily until he finds a
wonderful and approved forever home. Let us
know if you're interested in adopting!
See
photos and read Harold's blog

Special Thanks
Bow wows and howls go out to Southern
Cross German Shepherd Rescue, Inc. for their
help in moving some wonderful dogs out of
the animal shelter. Molly Moncure and her
colleagues are generously fostering and
networking for some dogs that wouldn't have
had a chance otherwise. We appreciate
everyone who has stepped up to help with
rescue efforts! It's a never-ending process.

Saying Good-Bye...
FOHCAS is sad to see some of our friends
go. Very recent resignations were given by
Deanne Agentis (Director), Janean Parker
(President), and Liz Butikofer (Treasurer). We want to thank all of you for
the hard work you put into making positive
changes for the animals of Habersham County
over the last year and a half! Your service
will not be forgotten.

Busy
Weekend!
FOHCAS members will be out and about on November 10 and
11, 2007. Please join Liz and Andrea in raising funds at
Belk in Cornelia during their Charity Days. Have
some pre-holiday fun with Janean at the Old Clarkesville
Mill for the Chamber of Commerce's Holiday Bizarre.
Come by and say hello to Deanne who will have plenty of
pets for adoption at Tractor Supply in Toccoa.
Hitch a ride with Mick who will be transporting some pit
bull puppies to a no-kill rescue group.
You won't get bored this weekend!
Donate Used Printer Cartridges
Do you throw your used ink
cartridges in the trash? Why not bring them
to the Animal Shelter to help us raise money
AND recycle? It's a win, win situation.
Update on Needy Puppies
Well
it's been a long three weeks as of today and these
little babies are growing fast. Each one has a different
personality but all are just as cute as can be. We did
have about five really rough days and had to do some
formula changes as well as antibiotics, and just overall
constant attention. At one point I thought we would lose
every one of them, but with the right amount of TLC
everyone has done just fine!
The orphans
have individual portraits to share now and are looking
forward to finding forever homes in just a couple of
weeks!

FOHCAS Pet Graduates With Honors!
Congratulations to "Cotton" and his human,
Sherri Kling, of Habersham County!
Cotton was adopted from the shelter when he was
just a few months old. Sherri and Cotton
enrolled in obedience classes meeting weekly
with John Agentis for eight consecutive weeks.
Cotton completed his basic obedience course and
is seen here with his diploma on graduation day.
WAY TO GO, COTTON!
John offers private training classes for any
canine, but offers discounts to shelter pets no
matter where they have been adopted. You may
inquire about training by contacting the shelter
or emailing John directly at

Another Abuse
Case in Habersham
On Monday, August 27, a citizen witnessed a dog being
severely beaten near Belton Bridge. Because of the lack of
Animal Control officers, the citizen seized the dog herself
and brought it to FOHCAS. A friend of FOHCAS who runs
Southern Cross German Shepard Rescue took "Mouse" to
the vet and has begun the process of sending him to a
St. Bernard Rescue Group. Thank you to everyone who helped
save this sweet boy!

Help Us Fight Animal Cruelty
A Chihuahua mix named Kandi was brought
into the Animal Shelter this month with terrible burns--most
likely from having acid thrown on her. We're trying hard to
