Adoptions:
Our goal is to place as many healthy, non-aggressive animals
as possible with qualified, committed, loving families. We
provide several types of adoption opportunities, and
work with other licensed animal rescue groups to save as many adoptable
animals as possible. We reserve the right to decline adoption
if to do so is in the best interest of the animal or the applicant. FOHCAS participates in virtual shelters
petfinder.org and
displays animals through
Wal-Mart's Very Best Pet Network.
In compliance with Georgia state law, all animals adopted
from us must be spayed or neutered.
Lost
& Found: FOHCAS maintains a
lost & found
bulletin board for the local community. We also urge people to call the
John B. Gesbocker Animal Shelter immediately if their pet is missing.
Community
Education: FOHCAS provides speakers for community
and civic organizations, participates in the Clarkesville-Habersham
County Library summer reading program, displays educational
material at events, and provides copy for the Habersham County
Pet Page in the Northeast Georgian. Educational programs focus on responsible pet ownership
with special emphasis on pet overpopulation, pet health, and
the importance of pet identification. Please
contact us if your organization
is interested in having our Shelter Director as a guest
speaker. We also print a quarterly newsletter called Wags
N Whiskers available to members.
Spay/Neuter: FOHCAS allows citizens to participate in
a program called "Adopt-a-Stray." This program
provides low-cost spaying or neutering and vaccines to
people who have taken in a stray dog or cat.
